A wee slide show from camping at High Falls camping ground in April
Well.....this was quite a while ago, but I think I can remember the details. We went to High Falls, which has two main camping areas. One part is up by the lake, has nice breezes and views, and the other is in a valley with many many trees. Guess where we wanted to go...?? But..the area by the lake is for "overflow", when the other area is full. So we gave it a whirl in the valley, we set up, went for a walk all over the area, and had some burgers (and a few drinks). All was well....until the four wheel bikes started up across the river, they went in circles until approximately 1am. Great! Now we can sleep.....NO! Then the thunder, and lightening started. And it rained and rained on our wee tents (we were surrounded by RV's or campervans in kiwi speak)until about 7am. Great.
After breakfast we decided that we would ignore the rules and move camp. We desperately wanted some fresh air (away from the bugs!). So we didn't pack up, we just picked things up, shoved them into the suburban, and drove them up to the lake. Within an hour everything was dry. Much better, we put up a canopy, enjoyed the breeze and decided to go off on a hike. I haven't mentioned who we were with, Glen and Sarah -and their two dogs Kaia and Keena. Glen is training with Chris.
Anyhoo, back to the hike.....whoever let Chris go first was obviously out of their minds! We wandered off trail, and ended up on a road at the back of some property that had signs about trespassing. We were worried about being shot by Georgians, so we hurried out of there....heheheh
That night we had fajitas, a few margharitas, and a few giggles.....our main source of laughter had happened that afternoon....when we returned from our hike we noticed that someone was fishing on the jetty just down from us at the lake. They had parked in the camping spot next to us (we had no neighbours there so it was a muuuuch better camping spot). After a few hours of fishing they decided to drive down to the jetty, so they didn't have to walk....hold on...have to laugh...bahahahhaaaa...we are talking about 15 metres here. Remember the rain the night before....that is when the hilarity started. I should also point out that they had bald tires, there were four of them, and they were all quite a bit over doctor recommended weight. First they tried to drive, making a lot of noise and smoke. They switched drivers, tried pushing from the front (they were reversing), and sitting on the back (it was a ute/truck). After 5 minutes of watching and enjoying the show, Sarah and I decided to send the boys to help. This was the funniest part. The boys went down to help, and again the drivers were switched. The husband decided that he should drive, while the wife and sister sat on the back....can you see what is coming here...?? Chris and Glen pushed them out while the whole family sat in or on the car!!! Oh so ridiculous!! I loved it.
So that is a quick overview of our camping trip, there is probably another coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled!! And enjoy the piccies!
